New 2007 products from Samsung based on this new chipset will also be on display. The 10-fold contrast improvement provides for a better viewing experience in almost any ambient room lighting situation. Additionally, LED illumination increases the color saturation to nearly 140% of the NTSC TV standard and delivers a color refresh rate of up to 48x the standard TV frame rate when combined with the inherent speed of DLP technology. LED illumination also provides "Instant On/Off" functionality and replaces a conventional lamp with a long-lasting (lifetime) light source.

Additional DLP innovations, including the integration of a 3D display mode, will be demonstrated by multiple DLP HDTV customers at CES. Due to the speed of the DLP technology, true stereoscopic high definition 3D is possible for an immersive gaming experience. TI is working with select customers to integrate 3D imaging in future DLP HDTV models.
Source: www.dlp.com

HDTV Review Guides

Great HDTV Prices - Lowest Prices

Here is a great review from PC MAG

Listing for $1,199, the 46-inch WinBook 46D1 pleasantly surprised me with an out-of-the-box picture that exhibited natural and accurate colors. I also appreciated the 46D1's comprehensive menu options that included custom input naming and an effective backlight control that reduced the display's overall brightness to eye-comfortable levels. The WinBook only has one HDMI port, but that isn't terribly unusual for a budget set.

Visio's VP42 is a $1,099 (List) 42-inch plasma display that strikes a great balance between features, image quality, and price. In the lab, the VP42's effective video processor kept my standard and high definition videos artifact-free while the color quality and detail of its picture had me comparing it to a premium brand that cost three times as much.

Though it's smaller, at 32-inches, the AOC Envision L32W461 LCD TVcosts just $899 (List) and made a decent first impression by delivering a picture with natural and pleasing color quality. It's also another model that provides only one HDMI input, but its low price and ease of use made its limitations easier to accept.

Running for a low $1,199 (List), the ViewSonic N3751w provides three HDMI inputs, noteworthy for an HDTV at any price. You might see some LCDs advertising 15,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio which is about a 2000:1 static contrast ratio. Don't get suckered in!! always go for the static contrast ratio... that is the ratio that is displayed with Plasma hdtvs.

1080p resolution. It looks great on plasmas! viewing angles, color depth, and brightness on plasma displays are incredibly superior to other display types such as LCD, DLP, projection. One thing to note is that people say that plasmas have burn in.... well yes they did, but dont believe the hype anymore. Plasmas burn in problems have been fixed with the new advances in technology. Also, their half life has significantly increased so dont worry too much about that. You will be enjoying that plasma tv for many many years and by then you will be ready to buy another HDTV. 1440p resolution hdtvs are coming out so...

Looks fantastic hooked up to a computer. I have my media center PC hooked up to my HDTV and it looks great. I have tried it with a 1080p LCD and it looks really good too. Tried it with a DLP and LCOS, and not so good.

Those are the top reasons why I prefer a plasma hdvt over the rest.
HDTV Review Guides

1,000,000:1 contrast ratio - OLED

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; Edition 1

Today on this edition of HDTV home theater review is the Samsung HL-S5687w DLP HDTV.

Just a short review with only the information you need for this DLP HDTV:
What looked good on this DLP HDTV was ESPN sports.
Overly compressed sports looked worse on this TV.

Los Angeles ABC at 720p and it did not look that great.
HDNET Hockeyhad an amaizing picture on this TV

Standard Definition looked pretty good.
Good scaler on this HDTV
Standard DVDs will look good when connecting to the HDTV

The Specs:

1080p (via Wobulation)

10,000:1 Contrast Ratio

Faster, Bigger, Quieter color wheel

Dual HDMI inputs

Only 16.3 inches deep and 64 lbs

The Good:

Very Nice HD picture (for sports and movies)

Really good picture when viewing standard definition

No Rainbow effect.

1080p

dual HDMI

The Bad:

Color not as vivid as SXRD but good enough

Detail lost in dark scenes not much, just some

No discrete access to inputs

<div work.

hdtv review

home theater hdtv
Today I will talk about HDMI cables and how they work.

HDMI (High definition multimedia interface) is similar to a DVI cable (digital video cable), but the HDMI also carries audio. HDMI is a 19 pin connector that kind of looks like a usb cable at each end. HDMI cables are slimmer and smaller than the DVI cable.

HDMI cables carrie uncompressed digital data, it has virtually the same quality as the DVI. The HDMI has a badnwidth of 5Gb/second. HDMI as well as DVI can have signals that are encrypted with HDCP (high bandwidth digital content protection) to try and stop people from recording the HDTV shows.... HA good luck, they cant stop anyone from copying anything.

The HDMI cable can support up to 8 channels of digital audio, so that means it can carry 7.1 channel of dolby digital EX. Most of the HDTV televisions do come with HDMI connections.
HDTV Review Guides

DLP rear projection TVs - how they work.

HDTV Guides Edition 16 - DLP HDTV how they work

Some components:

High Wattage long life bulb
Condensing lens
Rotation color wheel
Shaping lens
DLP/DMD chip
Projection lens
Projected image

The DLP HDTV begins with a light created by a projector lamp that has about 4000hrs of life. The light from the projector lamp shines through the condensing lens that focuses the light to a small point.

The focused light shines through the rotation color wheel of the RGB colors, red green blue segments and rotates at high velocities to create 16.7 million colors in sequence. There is a rainbow effect that some user experience so some DLPs come with color wheels with more colors and spin even faster to help eliminate the rainbow effect.

Next, the light which is now full of color shines into the shaping lens and onto the DMD chip (digital micromirror device) that is composed of thousands of very small mirrors. There is one mirror for each pixel that is all controlled by the DMD.

The reflected light from the DMD illuminates through the projection lens which increases the image size of the projected images. The resulting image is projected onto the DLP HDTV screen where everyone can see.

HDTV Review Guides

Video Cables

HDTV Guides Edition 15 - Video Cable comparisons

Coaxial Cables are analog and contain video and audio mixed together. Expect most new plasma and LCD screens to have HDCP-compatible HDMI inputs, but it´s worth making sure yourself before you buy.

DVI

DVI stands for Digital Video Interface, a simple and cheep adaptor will mean that a TV with this and the required screen resolution will be able to accept most HDTV broadcasts just as easily as HDMI, so a screen equipped with DVI will do almost as well – although it doesn’t carry 5,1 audio. Similar to projection, direct view and LCD TVs, LCoS uses tiny liquid crystals to create the colored pixels that make up the TV’s onscreen display. In an LCoS system, the crystal layer sits on top of a reflective mirror substrate. Instead of shining a backlight directly through the LCD layer, light is bounced off the mirror behind the liquid crystal. When an electrical charge is applied to a cell filled with the liquid crystals, the crystal's state is modified to allow or block light – turning the pixel on or off.

Some advantages of LCoS technology:

A) . The matrix lines that separate individual pixels are thinner, eliminating the “screen door” effect of black lines appearing between pixels unlike the LCD TVs on the market today.

B). No moving parts – no pivoting micro-mirrors or spinning color wheels. The color wheels is the culprit behind the “rainbow effect” artifacts that bother some DLP viewers... not me though.

HDTV Review Guides

SED Display Guide

HDTV Guides Edition 5 - SED Display Guides

Surface-conduction electron-emitter display (SED) technology Developed by Toshiba - co-developed with Canon.

They say that SED Displays have:

"same picture quality as a CRT"

"wall-mounted large-screen TV displays that are only several centimeters thick"

"energy consumption that is roughly one-half that of a large-screen CRT and about one-third that of a plasma display panel"

Some news broadcasts had stated that the SED Displays would be available at low cost but Toshiba is considering its SED display TVs as their high end HDTV line. If you do have a Media Center PC already hooked up to your HDTV and as long as the hookup is using a at least Component Video,DVI or HDMI from the Media Center PC to the HDTV then your golden. All you need is the XBOX 360 HD DVD drive for 200$. Hook that up via the USB port on your Media Center PC and Windows should detect it,if not you can google the "HD DVD xbox drivers for windows" to find the drivers. All the drivers do is allow Windows to read the HD DVD formatting on the HD DVD movie.

There is one catch, you need to buy the Japanese version of WinDVD platinum 8, other english version of WinDVD will play the HD DVD but not at High Definition quality. Cyberlink will be coming out with their HD DVD Player software early spring, but the Japanese version of WinDVD 8 will play the HD DVD at full High Definition resolution.

Check this discussion for lots of great info about playing the XBOX 360 HD DVD drive on your HTPC and HDTV.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/printthread.php?t=748426&page=8&pp=30
HDTV Review Guides

HDTV Standards

HDTV Standards

Below is a list of the NTSC (National Television System Committee) and the ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) standards that produce HDTV programming.

ATSC 16x9(1080i = 1920x1080 interlaced at 60 half-frames/sec); HDTV Stations: HDTV -
